"Should I set up a charity?"

Thinking about whether to turn your community group, company or CIC into a charity?

Find out the pros and cons, how it works, and get your questions answered.

with Christina Poulton

If you're thinking about turning your organisation into a charity, you've probably begun by googling and ended up more confused than when you started.

There's a lot of jargon involved and very little help available, without having to pay hundreds of pounds for consultancy.

Don't panic! I genuinely love all this governance nonsense and so I've put this workshop together. It's designed to give you all the info you need, to decide if a charity is the right thing for you or not.

We will cover...

✅ What it means to be a charity and the admin and legal requirements of running one (& whether it's as scary as everyone makes out!)

✅ When and why setting up a charity can be a good move- and when it might not be

✅ The differences between a CIO and a charitable company

✅ How to get started with the set up or conversion, if you decide to go for it

plus you get access to the Q&A community to post your questions and get the answers you need.

Sticky note with a quote on which says: Thanks again, you broke through a lot of the jargon and big business words which absolutely terrified me when I first started researching by myself!

How it works

🚀 I'll give you all the info you need, in a clear, no waffle way in a 45 minute video training (originally recorded at a live workshop)

💡 I'll share my experience setting up and running charities, and of supporting people through the charity incorporation or conversion process. So you get the consultancy perspective as well as what it means if you're running the organisation day to day.

🎉 You can ask as many questions as you like in the Q&A community, and you get to join Sticky-note Squad, which is my free monthly email support for small organisations doing great things.

Sticky-note with quote on which says Christina removed all of the roadblocks I had been stewing over, unable to find the answers elsewhere. She understood things from a founder/director's point of view, which was invaluable! I can finally move forward with confidence.”

Who are you?

Hi, I’m Christina (she/her).

I work with charities, CICs and community orgs to make your work easier to manage and fund. There’s more about me here.

I have run and successfully fundraised for many organisations, including £4.2 million+ in successful funding bids.

I’ve worked with hundreds of people on their organisation set up, including training on how to choose a legal structure, advice sessions and successful incorporation of 16 charities and community interest companies in the last couple of years.

When you run a non-profit, you’re often doing it all – and often by yourself. If that's you, then you’re in the right place. Get some support and your questions answered!

What about access?

The slides don't rely on any visual information and I'll give visual descriptions for any images. The captions for the recording were checked for clarity and accuracy by me, rather than just AI and the full transcript is available. The resources will be in text pdf format but I can provide things as pure text doc if preferred.
